Colour & Trim Guide

This particular brochure hit my attention and as such I wanted to have it.

Thought it's a nice item to have included with the car and to look up my colour scheme.

I found one for a very decent price on Ebay. It turned out it was offered by the same person from whom I obtained the car brochure, see blog:

http://erwinxjs.blogspot.nl/2016/09/jaguar-xj-s-he-brochure-price-list.html

He was open for offers and as such I obtained it for € 2,- only.  The shipping costs was twice as much, still a very good deal in my opinion. I'm very happy with this nice addition. The leaflet has reference nr CC/X/003 I suspect this one is time period correct for 1983/84.

According to this guide it looks like the paint name for my car is "Antelope" with "Doeskin" leather interior.

Brian May Jaguar XJS

Taken from FB:

Bought new by Brian May on the 6th October 1975 - not a month after the XJ-S launch. Not sure how he funded it due to Queens little chart success at that time - all the documentaries I've watched about the band say they were skint until "Bohemian Rhapsody" LOL. Maybe he knew that the song they were to release the following month would end up one of the most successful songs of the 1970s and would send the band through the stratosphere. Oh and its chassis number 2w1094bw! 1 of the first hundred, how cool is that!

Chrome polishing

Yesterday I also made an attempt to improve the chrome. Overall the chrome on the car is in a very good condition (bumpers, front/rear window, mirrors). Except for the small chrome frames on the side windows. It's only on the laying frames and the rear side going up. The frames on top of the side window are perfect - I can't explain this (different material used?). I'm not sure if it's clearly visible on the picture but it does some has some light tiny corrossion spots. So I bought some chrome polish (Belgom - apparently a very good brand) and made an attempt. But it did not make much difference in my opinion. Next week I will bring my dremel with a proper polishing head hoping that will do the trick. Watch this space.

Paint it black - Part II

It has been a while since I have been doing some activity on the XJS. This is due to a few reasons: other cars :-) and a holiday break and doing other work in the "garage". Also with the weather getter better and warmer I don't feel like doing much. And last but not least I'm saving up a little for buying tooling. So I anticipate after the summer I will do more mechanics on the car. Till then I will look occassionly into the cosmetics. We want a shiney beauty after all. So today I finally took care of the painting of the other door (as per blog: http://erwinxjs.blogspot.nl/2017/04/paint-it-black.html). Prior to this I took the car out for a little spin and it's running nicely. Next week I will take it out to a car and aeroplane show: http://cca-seppe.nl/ I hope I can make some nice piccies with some old aeroplane.

Todays painting did not went completely flawless, so I think I need to sand and paint a little piece again but overall I'm happy with the end result as it looks less "shabby" / ""worn out" now.

All masked off, good old newspaper and tape:

Jaguar XJS on the rise

A Dutch article that was brought to my attention. The car on display looks identical as mine, except it has the steering wheel on the right.
